Our Lady of the Rocks and Blue Cave 3 hours tour- ticket tour
The best part of this three-hour speedboat trip is the change of scene. You leave Kotor’s stone lanes behind, skim past the Bay of Kotor’s mountain walls, then reach the open Adriatic for a swim in the Blue Cave. I like the mix of natural sights and military history, especially the submarine tunnel and Mamula Fortress. I also like that the boat carries a small group rather than a huge sightseeing crowd.
The main drawback is the ride itself. The speedboat can be very bumpy, particularly in the front, and the Blue Cave may be packed with other boats or closed by wind and rough water. You get a fast, lively outing, but not a slow, quiet cruise.

Key points to know before you book

- The Blue Cave is the headline stop: You normally get about 20 minutes for swimming, though conditions and boat traffic can shorten the time inside.
- The boat ride is fast and rough: Sit toward the back if you want a gentler ride, and think twice if you have a bad back or trouble holding on.
- Our Lady of the Rocks costs extra: The church and museum visit is included in the route, but the museum admission is not included in the $38.71 price.
- Small-group plans can vary: The tour is promoted around a boat for about 15 people, but some departures have involved extra pickups or more people than expected.
- The best captains add real value: Nikola, Dragan, Dado, and Stefan have all been praised for friendly commentary and confident boat handling, though your captain is assigned on the day.
- Weather matters: Strong wind or rough seas can cancel the Blue Cave visit, change the route, or lead to a refund or alternate date.
Leaving Kotor for the Bay

The tour begins at Park Slobode, close to Kotor Old Town. Pickup can also be arranged at dockable points around the bay, including Muo, Prčanj, Stoliv, and Dobrota. The boat returns to the same meeting point, which makes this easy to fit around time in Kotor.
At $38.71 per person, this is a fairly modest way to see a large section of the bay and the coast beyond it. You are paying mainly for transport by speedboat, a captain who provides some commentary, fuel, bottled water, WiFi, and snorkel equipment. The price does not include the museum ticket at Our Lady of the Rocks.
The timing deserves attention. A full three hours applies when you start in Kotor. If you arrange to begin in Perast, the outing can be about two and a half hours because you are already farther along the route. Check your pickup point carefully when booking.
The boat is intended for a small group, with promotional material describing space for about 15 people. In practice, the number can vary if the operator collects people at more than one dock. A few departures have felt crowded, so do not assume that booking for two or four people means you will have a private boat. This is a shared ticket tour, not a private charter.

Prčanj’s palaces and churches

The first sightseeing section takes you along the quieter side of the bay toward Prčanj. You pass Tre Sorelle Palace, a 15th-century Gothic building and one of the few examples of that style in the Bay of Kotor.
The palace is linked to a local love story, which the captain may explain during the ride. This is a quick view from the water, not a full palace visit. Still, it gives you a useful sense of the old settlements scattered around the bay.
You also pass the large Our Lady’s Temple of Prčanj. Built in the Baroque style and dedicated to the birth of the Holy Virgin, it took more than 120 years to complete. Its scale is striking when seen from the water, especially beside the small waterfront houses and steep slopes behind it.
These early stops are about views and short commentary rather than getting off the boat. Keep your camera ready, but do not expect a long guided visit at each building.
The open-water run to Mamula

After the sheltered inner bay, the boat heads toward the entrance of Boka Kotorska. This is where the character of the outing changes. The ride becomes faster, windier, and more exposed, with the boat moving at full speed for much of the route.
Mamula Fortress sits on a small island at the bay entrance. Built in the 19th century, it later served as a prison during the First and Second World Wars. It is currently closed to the public because of renovation and plans for an upmarket hotel, so you see it from the boat rather than walk inside.
Mamula is a good example of why this tour works best as a broad introduction to the coast. You see several important places in one morning or afternoon, but most stops are brief. The captain’s explanation matters here. Captains such as Nikola and Dragan have been praised for giving clear background without turning the trip into a long lecture.
The ride can also be the least comfortable part. People seated at the bow take the hardest hits when the sea is rough. The back is usually the better choice if you want more support. Hold on firmly, and do not treat the boat like a calm harbor ferry.
Swimming inside the Blue Cave

The Blue Cave is the main reason most people book this trip. Sunlight enters through an opening in the rock and gives the water a blue-green glow. The boat normally allows about 20 minutes for swimming near or inside the cave, with snorkel gear available.
The experience depends heavily on conditions. On a calm day, you can jump into clear water and swim beneath the rock roof. The water itself is often the highlight, even when the cave visit is short. Some departures have had enough time for a good swim, while others have found the cave crowded with many boats.
This is not a private cave experience. At busy times, several speedboats may arrive together, and people can be swimming close to boats and their motors. The cave may feel rushed when operators are waiting to enter. In rough conditions, the captain may decide that entering or swimming is unsafe.
That uncertainty is important. Do not book this as a guaranteed Blue Cave swim. The operator requires suitable weather, and a change of route may be made for safety. If the cave cannot be visited, the boat may spend extra time at another attraction, though the exact replacement depends on the day.
Snorkel equipment is listed as included, but the supply may not always be complete. One departure had masks but no snorkels, so bringing your own equipment is sensible if swimming is a major reason for booking. Bottled water is provided, but bring suitable clothing for an open speedboat. Even a warm day on land can feel cold at speed.

Inside the former submarine tunnel

The former submarine tunnel on Luštica is a quick but memorable stop. The tunnel was cut into the steep shore during Yugoslav times, when the area served as a military base. It was used to hide and repair submarines and ships.
The entrance looks plain from the water, but the tunnel’s purpose makes it more interesting than a simple photo stop. It reaches about 50 meters into the rock, with a width of roughly 7 meters. The water is around 8 meters deep inside and becomes much deeper near the exit.
The scheduled visit is about five minutes, though the actual time can be shorter if the boat is running late. I would like a little more explanation here because this is one of the tour’s more unusual sights. Still, even a short look helps you understand the military role of the coast during the 20th century.
Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks

Perast is viewed from the water before the boat reaches Our Lady of the Rocks. This small Baroque town was once home to wealthy sea captains. Despite having only about 350 inhabitants, it had 18 churches and 19 palaces.
The most visible landmark is the Church of Saint Nicholas, with its unfinished 55-meter bell tower. The tower was never completed because of a lack of money. From the boat, Perast’s stone buildings, church towers, and waterfront have a compact, almost theatrical appearance.
Our Lady of the Rocks is the final major stop and the only one with an admission charge. The island was built by people from Perast, according to the local story, after an icon of the Virgin Mary was found on a rock in the sea. Over time, rocks and old ships were added to create the island.
You have about 20 minutes to visit the church and museum. The museum entry is not included, so carry a little extra money if you want to go inside. This stop is short, but it gives the tour a cultural focus after the faster Blue Cave and submarine tunnel sections.
Do not confuse Our Lady of the Rocks with the nearby island of Saint George. The tour focuses on the man-made island, its church, and its museum. You will have time to see the main attraction, but not to linger over every display.
What the boat ride feels like

The speedboat is clean and, on some departures, feels nearly new. The fast pace lets you cover the long distance from Kotor to the open coast within a three-hour outing. You also get unobstructed views that are difficult to enjoy from a larger covered boat.
The tradeoff is comfort. The ride can be extremely bumpy, especially on the run to the Blue Cave. People with neck or back problems should be cautious. It is also not ideal for anyone who dislikes wind, spray, or holding on during sharp movement.
The boat may stop for additional pickups, and this can use 15 to 20 minutes of sightseeing time. Some people have also found the meeting point difficult to identify among several similar tour sellers. Look for the stated meeting area and confirm the boat and operator before boarding.
The crew experience can vary. Captains including Dado, Nikola, Stefan, and Dragan have received praise for safe handling, friendly conversation, and useful information. Other departures have had poor communication, distracted staff, or an unfriendly captain. That inconsistency is worth accepting only if the itinerary matters more to you than a polished, private-feeling service.
Who will get the most from this tour

I would recommend this outing to you if you have limited time in Kotor and want to combine scenery, swimming, and several historical sights. It is also a good fit if you like a fast boat ride and prefer seeing a wide area rather than spending a whole day at one location.
Families can take the tour, and most people can participate. A life jacket was provided for a toddler on one departure, but you should still ask about safety equipment before setting out if you are bringing a young child.
I would be careful booking it if you have a bad back, poor balance, or strong sensitivity to rough water. The boat is open, and the ride can be hard on the body. It is also a weak choice if you want detailed interpretation at every stop or a peaceful cruise with lots of time onshore.
The tour is not a private experience unless you specifically book a private option. You may meet other people at additional pickup points, and the boat can feel snug when full. That can be social and fun, but it removes some control over the schedule.
Is $38.71 good value?
For the price, I think the tour can be good value when the sea is calm and the Blue Cave is accessible. You get a long coastal route, a swim, views of Mamula, the submarine tunnel, Perast, and time at Our Lady of the Rocks without arranging several separate boat trips.
The value drops if the cave is closed, the boat loses time collecting people, or the ride becomes so rough that you cannot enjoy the scenery. Much of the three hours is spent moving between stops, so you are buying access to the route rather than three hours of activities.
Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before departure. If bad weather cancels the tour, you can be offered another date or a full refund. The same applies if the minimum number of participants is not reached. Changes made less than 24 hours before departure are not accepted, so check the local cutoff time.
My booking advice
Book this tour if you want a lively half-day on the water and understand that the Blue Cave is weather dependent and often busy. Sit at the back, bring a warm layer, and carry your own snorkel if swimming is important. Confirm the meeting point, pickup location, and departure time carefully.
Skip it if you want a quiet cruise, a private boat, or long visits at each sight. For the right person, this is an efficient and exciting introduction to Kotor Bay and the coast beyond it. For the wrong person, it can feel like a very fast taxi ride between crowded stops.
